My education and training
I attended law school at Santa Clara University and I have been in practice since 1980. I have been exclusively engaged in the practice of criminal defense since being admitted to the bar. I was a Criminal Law Specialist, certified by the State Bar of California in Criminal Law, from 1995 until I elected to drop the specialization in 2023. I have represented people all over the state of California and the United States.

I am a member of the State Bar of California, the Santa Clara County Bar Association, the California
Attorneys for Criminal Justice, National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, Criminal Courts
Defense Bar, and the California Public Defenders Association. I have also been a member of the
National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) Legal defense committee.
My entire 40 year+ professional life has been devoted to the defense of individuals charged with a crime,
both in state courts and in Federal courts. My membership in various professional organizations reflects
my commitment to defending those caught up in the criminal justice system. My practice emphasizes
narcotics cases and crimes of violence, particularly those charged with acts of domestic violence
My Philosophy
I am devoted to giving you the best representation possible at every turn of your case. I will do whatever it takes to achieve the best result in your case, whether that is a jury trial (of which I have tried to verdict well over 100 cases), or, as may be required in some cases, negotiating the best possible resolution by way of a plea bargain. I will always keep you and your family’s best interests at heart. I am a firm believer that everyone deserves the best defense possible and I am committed to that on your behalf. Unfortunately, the criminal justice system seems designed to run right over you unless you fight back aggressively. I will do that on your behalf.
Domestic Violence
I have become increasingly more involved in this work because I have seen far too many families torn
apart by an uncaring and inflexible system, more bent on convicting people and sending them to jail than
attempting to help struggling families.
I believe every side has a story and this is especially true where there are allegations of domestic
violence. All families go through difficult times and struggles. I want to help you tell your story and I
want to help you get through a difficult time in your life. Having done this work for over 40 years, I am
very much aware that it seems overwhelming. I cannot immediately remove that black cloud seemingly
hanging over your life, but I can help you see the way out.
Narcotics and Marijuana Defense
Historically, this has been by far the most prevalent type of arrest in Silicon Valley and I have emphasized handling this type of case for my entire career. I am experienced in both the state and federal levels of narcotic defense, from the smallest case to the largest.
